Henry Lyman Clement (1847-1920)

The following July 8, 1920, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 4:
    Henry Lyman, son of Horatio and Lydia (Dewitt) Clement, was born in Cedar Creek Township, Indiana, January 14, 1847, and died at his home at Shelby, Ind., June 29, 1920, at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 15 days. He was united in marriage to Melissa Johnson in May 1872.* To this union was born two daughters, Hattie and Oca.* Mrs. Clement passed away in 1895. On September 1, 1898, he was again united in marriage to Ida M. Crane. To this union was born twin daughters, Lyvah and Lylah.

    The deceased was a man who bore the respect of all who knew him and made friends with all whom he met. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and D. of R. Lodges at Shelby.

    He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, four daughters: Mrs. John DeVersey, of Vernon, Ind.; Mrs. C.H. Vick, of Seattle, Washington; Lyvah and Lylah, of Shelby, and a host of friends.

    The funeral services were held at the home Friday at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Jacob Woerner preached the sermon. The services were in charge of Shelby lodge of Odd Fellows. Burial was made in the Lowell cemetery. Undertaker Sheets had charge of teh burial service. The following members of the Shelby Lodge of Odd Fellows acted as pall bearers: Claude Rumsey, George Stowell, James Jones, Floyd Stowell, Joe Curtis, Stewart Stowell.

* NOTE -- Althought this article lists the marriage date of Henry L. Clement and Melissa Johnson as May 1872, his wife's obituary lists it as Oct. 18, 1873. Her obituary also lists their second daughter's name as Oca rather than Olia.
