- MRS. MALISSA A. CLEMENT.
Malissa Ann Clement was born in Porter county, Indiana, September 5, 1851, and was married to Henry J.* Clement, of Lake county, Indiana, on October 18, 1873. To this union was born two daughters, Hattie and Olia, aged respectively 17 and 8 years. She and her husband were the first permanent settlers of the now thriving town of Shelby, where she spent most of her married life. She departed this life on May 29, 1895, at the age of 43 years, 8 months and 17 days. She died in the Christian faith. She was a very industrious, prudent and saving wife, a kind mother and a good neighbor, Her many virtues are known by those who know her best. She leaves a husband, two daughters, a father and mother, three sisters, one brother and many near and dear friends to mourn her departure. Funeral services were held at [the] Christian church in Lowell, on May 24th, conducted by Rev. John L. Worley, who spoke kind and consoling words of wisdom to a large and sympathizing audience. Her remains were laid to rest in the Lowell cemetery.
