Ida L. Brooks Miller (1865-1926)

- Ida L., second daughter of John M. and Mary A. Brooks, was born November 2, 1865, and departed this life April 14, 1926, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Laking, following a severe stroke which left her unconscious to the end.
Her age was 65 years, 5 months and 12 days.
She had been in better health the last few weeks than she had been for some time and on the day of her stroke she made the remark that it was so nice, she must get our and see about her flower garden she had been planning on all winter. It was during these few minutes outside that she was stricken.
On Dec. 31, 1882, she was united in marriage to William R. Miller, who preceded her to the Great Beyond eight years ago. To this union were born five children, four of whom are left to mourn her sudden departure: Mrs. J.B. Laking, of St. Charles, Mich., Merwin, of Momence, Ill., Mrs. Ed. Hayenga, of Chessaning, Mich., and McKinley, of St. Louis, Mo. One daughter, Elsie, passed away in 1907.
She also leaves three sisters -- Mrs. Lydia Mumm, of Lowell, Ind., Mrs. Estella Collins, of Crown Point, Ind., and Mrs. Hettie Meyer, of Harvey, Ill; ten grand-children, and a host of other relatives and friends.
At the early age of 15 years she united with the Christian church at Sherburnville, Ill., and has always tried to live up to her Christian faith.
About a year ago she decided to sell her property at Sherburnville and make her home with her children, so went to Michigan to live with her eldest daughter, Lottie Laking.
Funeral services were held at Sherburnville Church of Christ on Sunday, April 18th at 2 p.m. A large number attended the services. Rev. F.B. Nickerson, pastor of the Lowell Church of Christ, conducted the services. Music was furnished by the Misses Delpha Sisson, Delta Pinkerton and Rachel Williams.
