Jack W. "Jackie" Gerner
- Jack Gerner will report to Indianapolis for induction into the Army next Tuesday, June 17.
The following June 26, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 2:
- Jack Gerner was the only one inducted in the June call of the southern Lake County selective service board. Jack is at Camp Custer, Mich., but as yet does not have a permanent address. Jack was graduated from L.H.S. with the class of '50.
The following July 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 6:
- Jack Gerner, inducted into the Army two weeks ago, has been transferred from Camp Custer, Mich., to Fort Riley for basic training. Jack sends his address to home friends: Pvt. Jack Gerner, US 55269307, Co. D., 86th Inf. Reg., 10th Inf. Div., Ft. Riley, Kansas.
This September 25, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, columns 3-4:
- Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaarz of Schneider recently returned from a 9-day trip to Oklahoma where they visited their son, Jack Gerner. Since completing basic training at Fort Reilly, Kansas, the last of August, and enjoying a 4-day leave at home, Jack has been stationed at Fort Sill where he is enrolled in a helicopter mechanics training course. A graduate of L.H.S., Jack worked as a mechanic prior to his induction. He sends the following new address: Pvt. Jack Gerner US-55269307, Air Trg. Fac. Btry. T.A.S. 4051st A.S.U., Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
The following November 6, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 2, column 3:
- Called home by the death of his grandfather, John McMann, Jack Gerner came from Fort Sill, Okla., early Saturday morning, to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaarz. Relatives gathered at the home of his aunt and family, the Robert Bolts, Tuesday evening to bid Jack goodbye before his return to camp.
The following article was found in the August 20, 1953, Lowell Tribune on page 4, column 2:
- PFC. Jack Gerner recently spent five days with his folks Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaarz and his grandmother Mrs. John McMann. He returned to Fort Sill, Okla., where he has been stationed since completing his basic training. In the Army for 14 months now, Jack is a crew chief. His men render service to five helicopters. In two weeks his parents will vacation and be his guests at Fort Sill.
