Word was received last week by the Frank Marshalls from their son, Pvt. James, informs them that he is now located at Ft. McClellan, Ala., along with two other Lowell boys who left here with him. Lowell Boys Spend Day Together
A letter received by the Chris Kuipers from their son, Pvt. Edward Kuiper, stationed at Ft. McClennan, Ala., where he is taking training, says that he and two other Lowell boys spent the Sunday before together. The other two boys were Pvt. James Marshall and Pvt. Hollis Meyer. Edward said they were all O.K. and enjoyed the day very much.This January 18, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
- Pvts. Hollis Meyer, Forrest Felder and James Marshall, who have been taking their basic training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, have completed their required training and are now at home here on furlough. When they return to duty they expect to go to the east coast.
This March 8, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- The Frank Marshalls have received word that their son, Pvt. James Marshall, is overseas, somewhere in Italy. Several Lake county boys who trained at Ft. McClellan, made the trip over with him.
This June 14, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Pvt. James Marshall writes his parents from Italy that he was pleasantly surprised on June 3rd when Roy Wieler, who has been recovering from illness in the camp hospital, looked him up. They spent the day together and were joined by Bill Bruce, another Lowell boy located at the same camp. James says they aren't doing much right now, just conditional training while waiting for their next move.
A September 6, 1945, Lowell Tribune article (page2, column 1) mentions that James Marshall was home on furlough from overseas.
This October 18, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 2:
- After a 45-day furlough from over seas, spent here with his mother and his sister and family, Pvt. Jas. Marshall returned to Camp Atterbury, Sunday. From there he will go on to Camp Polk, La., to join his unit of the 401st Engineers, Co. C, for re-assignment.
This November 15, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Pvt. James Marshall writes his mother from Camp Polk, La., where he is stationed at this time, that his unit of 401st Engineers has been reassigned and he is now in the Military Police.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 14, 1946, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Pvt. James W. Marshall left here Sunday, Feb. 10th to return to his post with the 214th Military Police, 3rd Corps at Camp Polk, La., after spending a 15-day furlough here with his mother, sister and family and friends.
This June 13, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 6:
- Pfc. James W. Marshall and wife the former Ruby M. Lloyd of Beaumont, Texas, left here Tuesday after a five weeks' visit with relatives, for Texas, where they will visit a few days with her parents, before returning to Leesville, La., where he is stationed at Camp Polk with the Third Corps M.P. Plat. He has re-enlisted for another year in the Army.
