William A. Bruce
An April 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article entitled "19 Volunteers and Inductees Enter Service" listed William Bruce, Crown Point, as an army volunteer. The article further added:
- Nineteen volunteers and inductees for the army and navy left last Saturday and Monday to enter the armed service, beginning their primary training as soon as assigned at Ft. Benjamin Harrison.
The following Sept. 7, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Home On Furlough
Pvt. William Bruce, stationed at Camp Maxie, Texas, the past three months, arrived home Monday for a 15-day furlough with his wife and daughter, Sheila, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bruce.This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 11, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Word has been received by the Bert Bruces that their son, Pvt. Wm. Bruce has arrived in Italy with his outfit. He was getting along O.K. when the letter was written.
This June 14, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Pvt. James Marshall writes his parents from Italy that he was pleasantly surprised on June 3rd when Roy Wieler, who has been recovering from illness in the camp hospital, looked him up. They spent the day together and were joined by Bill Bruce, another Lowell boy located at the same camp. James says they aren't doing much right now, just conditional training while waiting for their next move.
This August 30, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Pvt. William Bruce is home from overseas duty and is spending a 30-day furlough here with his wife and his parents, the Bert Bruces.
This December 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- P.F.C. Wm. A. Bruce is spending the holidays with his wife and daughter and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bruce.
This April 25, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Pfc. William A. Bruce has been discharged from the army, and arrived home from Camp Atterbury Monday.
