James W. Smith (1851-1928)

The following December 27, 1928, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 6:
    James W. Smith was born at Sherburnville, Ill., August 7, 1851, and died December 19, 1928, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 12 days.

    The deceased spent most of his life in and near Lowell and was a man well like by his large circle of acquaintances. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Eliza* Driscoll, April 8, 1878. To this union two children were born, Luther Calvin Smith and John William Smith. Luther passed away at the age of 11 years. He has two grand children.

    The remains were brought to Lowell last Thursday night and funeral services were held at the Christian church Friday at 2 p.m. J.E. Poer conducted the funeral service. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery in charge of Weaver and Son.

* NOTE -- James Smith's wife's name appears in this article as "Mary Eliza Driscoll," but in her brother Martin Driscoll's obituary, her middle name was listed as "Louise."
