Rev. Poer, Former Lowell Pastor, Dies in Chicago Hospital
The death early Tuesday morning of Jacob Edward Poer concluded a lifetime of service rendered to his fellowmen through 35 years of ministry.Ill for some time, Rev. Poer had been hospitalized for two weeks at Gary Mercy prior to entering St. Luke's in Chicago on Sept. 8.
The son of Joseph and Georgia Poer, He was born in Shelby county, February 16, 1881, and received his education in county schools and Butler university at Indianapolis. In 1904 on Oct. 11 he married Edith Frazee of Wabash County and they were the parents of nine childrens.
The Poers came to Lowell in 1927, when he assumed the pastorate of the Lowell Church of Christ. In this capacity he served for about 10 years. Mrs. Poer passed away three years ago and Mr. Poer had been residing with his son Jean and family, north of Lowell.
Survivors include their nine children: Lowell of North Manchester, Ind., Jean of Lowell, Gerald of Kendelville, Thomas and Mrs. Georgia Buche of Crown Point, Lyle of West Covina, California, Max of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Martha Jackson, Gibsonburg, O., and Jacob Jr. of Toledo, O.; also 18 grandchildren besides a host of friends over the state.
Memorial services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, October 15, in the Lowell Church of Christian (sic). Brother Carrier of Hessville will officiate, assisted by the local pastor, Loren Holt. Crown Point Church of Christ Pastor, Dean Jacoby, will render hymns accompanied by Mrs. Jacoby at the organ.
Interment in charge of John Eskridge will be made in the Lowell cemetery beside his wife.
