Jane Britten Smith (1833-1906)

- Jane Britten was born near Attica, Fountain county, Ind., Oct. 11, 1833 and died at her home in Sherburnville Thursday morning, November 22, 1906. She came with her parents to Sherburnville at an early age. On Nov. 2, 1851, she was united in marriage to John Smith. To this union ten children were born, seven girls and three boys, all of whom are living except Julia, who died May 3, 1877. Besides her husband and children who survive her, she leaves one brother, one sister, and one half-sister, thirty-two grand-children and three great-grand-children. Aunt Jane, as she was familiarly known, became a member of the Christian church at the early age of thirteen years and remained faithful till her death. She had been an invalid for twelve years and on November 5th suffered a stroke of paralysis and lingered till Nov. 22nd, when death relieved her sufferings. She was a faithful and loving wife and mother and a kind neighbor beloved by all who knew her.
The funeral services were held from the Christian church at Sherburnville at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25th, and were largely attended. Rev. Harlow, pastor of the Christian church, Lowell, preached the funeral discourse. The Christian church choir furnished the music. Interment in the Sherburnville cemetery.
