    Corporal Jay S. Doolittle, recently home on furlough from Japan, reported to Turner Field, Ga., July 30th and expects to return to the Far East soon. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle, and Joyce Doolittle accompanied him to Turner Field and enjoyed a trip through the Cumberland and Great Smokey mountains.
This May 10, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 2, column 3:
    Sgt. Jay Doolitlle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle arrived home this week from Pope Air Force base, Fort Bragg, N.C., to enjoy a 13-day leave with relatives and friends. Jay enlisted in the Air Force 3½ years ago and has spent 15 months in the South Pacific area.
This May 24, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
    Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Roy and children are enjoying a travel vacation through the Great Smoky Mountains with plans to return via the east coast drive. Sgt. Jay Doolittle, Mrs. Roy's brother, concluding a 15-day furlough, accompanied them to his base, Fort Bragg, N.C.
This July 26, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 2, column 2:
    Sgt. Jay Doolittle returned Thursday to Pope Air Force Base, Fort Bragg, N.C., after enjoying a week at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle.
The following November 8, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 2:
    When people think of Airborne personnel they usually think of the Army. This is an exception to the rule. These men, Cpl. Jeff Harston, Ft. Worth, Texas, Cpl. Jay Doolittle, Lowell, and Sgt. Bill Dam Derry, N.H., have just completed the 82nd Airborne Division Jump Master School. The reason for their having to make a jump is to have control from the ground on an air-strike. They are all members of the 726th Tactical Control Group, stationed at Pope Field, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
This information from the November 29, 1951, Lowell Tribune was found on page 1, column 2:
    Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle received Thanksgiving greetings via phone from their son, Cpl. Jay, with the 82nd Airborne Div., stationed at Fort Bragg. Jay made his first "bad landing" last week and has been undergoing heat treatments for bruises.
The following January 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 4:
    Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle enjoyed having both their sons, Cpl. Jay and Pfc. Johnny of the Air Force, at home over the Christmas holidays. Jay came from Pope Field, N.C. and Johnny from Chanute Field at Rantoul, Ill.
The following February 21, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 6:

    Completes Four-Year Enlistment

    Concluding four years of service with the Air Corps, Sgt. Jay Doolittle received his discharge February 16th and arrived at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle, Tuesday. Jay spent one and one-half years in Japan with the security service before the start of the Korean conflict. He has since been a paratrooper with the tactical air control group currently stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. Jay's plans for the future are indefinite.
This May 22, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared in section 2 on page 5, column 3:

    Lowhorn - Doolittle Announce Engagement

    Mr. and Mrs. Lee Lowhorn of Tullahoma, Tennessee, are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Virginia, to Jay Doolittle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Doolittle of Lowell.

    After leaving L.H.S., Jay served four years with the Air Force, of which time 18 months were spent overseas. He was recently discharged as a sergeant and is now employed at the Gary Sheet & Tin Mills. His fiancée, a graduate of the Tullahoma high school, is employed in Hammond.

    Wedding plans are indefinite.

    Doolittle Receives Air Medal

    Air Force Technical Sergeant Jay S. Doolittle, son of Mrs. Mabel B. Doolittle of R.R. 1, Lowell, has received the Air Medal at Griffiss AFB, N.Y. Sergeant Doolittle, a communications technician, was decorated for his outstanding airmanship and courage on successful and important missions in support of U.S. operations in Southeast Asia. He is serving with the Strategic Air Command at Griffiss. The sergeant, whose father Wade M. Doolittle, resides at 3704 Benson Highway, Tucson, Ariz., is a graduate of Lowell high School. His wife, Virginia, is the daughter of Lee Lowhorn, Moore Street, Tullahoma, Tenn.
