John A. "Jack" Martin

The following article was found in the April 20, 1944, Lowell Tribune on page 3, column 3:
    S/Sgt. Jack Martin arrived home last week for a visit with his parents, the John Martins, and his grandmother, Mrs. Mae Williams. Jack just recently returned from overseas duty.

Notice that in the following articles, John Martin's middle initial is "A" in some cases and "B" in others.

This May 4, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
    Mrs. Rachel Crothers and Miss Phyllis Williams of Indianapolis, were here over the week-end visiting their nephew and cousin, S/Sgt. Jack Martin, in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Martin, before he left on Monday for his station in New Mexico.
This February 1, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:

    Return to Colorado

    Sgt. and Mrs. John B. Martin have returned to Pueblo, Colorado, where he is stationed. They have been visiting her father, George Keithley, and his parents, the John Martins, and other relatives and friends here for 15 days.
The following April 26, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Home for Few Hours

    S/Sgt. Jack A. Martin stopped off here for a few hours with his parents after a cross country flight from Pueblo, Colo., to Chicago.
This July 5, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 5:
    Mrs. John B. Martin has gone to Pueblo, Colorado, where she will visit her son, S/Sgt. and Mrs. John A. Martin. Sgt. Martin is a test flyer radio man on a B-29 Flying Fortress.
This August 2, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
    Mrs. John B. Martin has returned from Pueblo, Colorado, where she spent several weeks with her son, S/Sgt. John Martin, Jr., and wife. She says that her son and wife have a new daughter, born July 11th.
An October 4, 1945, Lowell Tribune article (page 5, column 4) mentioned that Apprentice Seaman Dick Keithley and S/Sgt. and Mrs. John A. Martin and daughter Jo Ann attended the first get-together the George Keithley family held in four years.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the October 17, 1946, issue (page 7, column 3):
    Iris Martin has gone to Balboa, Canal Zone, where she will visit her brother, S/Sgt. John Martin, and wife for some time.
The following November 29, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:

    Re-Enlists in Army

    Sgt. Jack Martin, who went to Pueblo, Colorado, recently, where he re-enlisted in the army, is now at Camp Atterbury, Ind., for reassignment.
This August 9, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 1, column 5:

    John A. Martin Promoted

    John A. Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Martin of Lowell, Indiana, recently was promoted to the grade of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

    M/Sgt. Martin is a veteran of ten years service and served overseas for twenty-five months during World War II.

    Presently, M/Sgt. Martin is the Assistant Station Chief of the Airways and Air Communications detachment at Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois.

The following October 18, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Master Sgt. John A. "Jack" Martin, who has been with the Air Corps since in January of 1942, has recently been transferred from Chanute Field at Rantoul, Ill., to Japan, where he will fill a 30-month assignment as radio operator. His wife, small son and daughter, are at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Martin, who reside on Charlevoix Avenue. Mrs. John A. Martin is employed as receptionist in the office of Dr. Mirro. However, she anticipates that plans will be formulated for them to join "Jack" in Japan.
The following July 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 6:
    Mrs. John A. Martin has received a long awaited port call to report at Seattle, Washington, July 9th, when with her daughter, Jo Alice, and little son, John Allen, she will leave by ship to join her husband, M/Sgt. John A. Martin, at Tackikawa base near Tokyo, Japan. The Martins expect to be in the Far East for two years.
This August 7, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 2, column 1:
    Sailing via the General Gaffery, Mrs. John Martin and two children had a pleasant voyage to Japan where they were greeted at Johnson Air Force Base near Tokyo by her husband, M/Sgt. John A. Martin of the 1954th AACS Squadron, stationed at Johnson Air Force Base. A letter received Saturday by the Sergeant's parents, the John B. Martins, tells of their safe landing on July 26th. The message reveals that 215 children were aboard the General Gaffery enroute to the Far East.
