The following August 27, 1925 Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 6:

    DIED SUDDENLY SUNDAY

    John J. East, father of Mrs. Franklin Petry, of Lowell, died very suddenly at his home at Wheatfield last Sunday. He had been enjoying his usual health and his sudden death was a great shock to his family and friends. Mr. East had visited his daughter and family here many times and had many friends here who were shocked to hear of his sudden death.

    Funeral services were held at the M.E. church at Wheatfield Tuesday. Rev. C.A. Brown, of Lowell, preached the sermon. Interment was made in Wheatfield cemetery. He leaves his wife, four daughters -- Mrs. Franklin Petry , of Lowell, Mrs. James Spry, of Wheatfield, Mrs. Will Spry and Mrs. Charles Knitter, of Hammond, several grand-children and other relatives and friends.
