The following newspaper article, hand-dated July 21, 1955, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

John Q. Adams Publisher of Columbia City Newspaper, Dies

Lowell friends were very sorry to learn of the death of John Q. Adams, 62, publisher of The Commercial-Mail, at Columbia City, whose wife is the former Miss Hester C. Little of Lowell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James H. Little, early West Creek pioneers.

Death came unexpectedly, July 7, at Memorial hospital, following an illness of one day. Cause was a perforated duodenal ulcer.

A lifelong resident of Columbia City, Mr. Adams was a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. Upon graduation he joined the staff of the Columbia City Post, which had been published by his father, J.W. Adams, since 1878. He continued on the newspaper with his brother, James and F.W. ________.

Memorial serves were held at the De Money and Son Funeral home July 10, with the Rev. Robert Crosby officiating, and burial was in the Greenhill cemetery at Columbia City. Members of his high school class, 1911, attended services in a body, and pallbearers were his nephews: Verle Little, Dick Little, Pfc. Gerald Little, Glenn Miller, all of Lowell, Lee Beuchler of Ohio, Walter Hillsman of Indianapolis, and Bob Fahl.

Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Adams taught domestic science at Columbia City high school.
