Lester Wallace (1849-1901)
- Lester Wallace was born in Ashtabula County, Ohio, July 3, 1849 and died at his home, Orchard Grove, Indiana, February 14, 1901, aged 51 years, 7 months and 11 days. He has not been in the best of health for sometime, but went to bed feeling as well as usual. About midnight his wife was awakened by his moaning. She hastened to him and did all in her power to give him relief; but to no avail; the Death Angel had called and he must obey the summons. He was one of our most industrious farmers and was highly respected by all who knew him. In 1855 he moved with his parents from Ohio to Michigan and in 1865 came to Indiana, where he has since resided. May 21, 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Stella Vandecar; the fruit of this union being two daughters -- Addie Izette and Bertha Leona; the eldest, who was the wife of Carl Brownell dying April 20, 1894.
He united with the Methodist Church about twenty six years ago and has ever since lived the life of a devout Christian being a member at the time of his death of that society at Orchard Grove. His funeral occurred from the Orchard Grove School House at 10 a.m. Saturday last; a very large number of his old neighbors and friends gathered to pay tribute of respect to him whom they had respected in life. Rev. E.D. Smith preached the funeral sermon and Funeral Director Weaver had charge of the burial service. He leaves his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Clifford Kenney, two grandchildren, a stepmother, three brothers, and one sister, together with a large circle of friends to mourn his departure to that better land. To the grief stricken family the TRIBUNE extends sincere sympathy.
