This January 6, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
    A letter received by the Sanford Bales from their son, Pvt. Lisand Bales, informed them that he did not enjoy Christmas very much this year as he spent the holidays in the hospital recuperating from an accident. At the time he wrote, he had been released and was again feeling fine.
This March 23, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Pvt. Lisand S. Bales, Jr., of Orlando, Fla., arrived home on a 15-day furlough to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lisand Bales, Sr., and his sister Pvt. Faye Bales.
On the same page, column 2, was the following:
    Pvt. Sanford Bales, who is stationed at Orlando, Fla., visited the Jess Lattas Sunday evening.
Another article on page 5, column 4, adds:
    Mr. and Mrs. George Rosenbauer entertained the following guests at Sunday dinner in honor of Mrs. Rosenbauer's brother, Pvt. Lisand S. Bales and sister, Pvt. Faye Bales, who leaves Monday for service in the Women's Marine Corps. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Lisand Bales, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. William Bales, Wallace Gault, all of Lowell, and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bales and daughters, Loleta and Lenore of Anderson, Ind.
The following October 19, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4 column 1:

    Returns to Camp

    Pvt. Lisand S. Bales, stationed at Orlando, Fla., went back to camp Monday, after spending two weeks here with his sister, Mrs. George Rosenbauer, and family, and his parents, at Momence.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the April 12, 1945, issue (page 2, column 2):
    Pfc. Lisand Bales, stationed at A.A.F.T.A.C., Orlando, Fla., who has been home on a 11-day furlough visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.S. Bales, his sister, Mrs. George Rosenbauer of Lowell, and brother, William and family of Momence, Ill., has returned to camp.
This April 12, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
    Mrs. Helen Bales and daughter, Mrs. Faye Barnes have arrived home from a two week trip to Orlando, Florida, where they went to visit their son and brother, Pfc. Lisand S. Bales, who has been confined to the base hospital there with a knee injury. On their return trip, Pfc. Bales was well enough to be released from the hospital to make the trip with them for a 11-day furlough. While in Orlando, Mrs. Bales and Mrs. Barnes visited Mrs. Earl Zieder, sister of Mrs. Bales, a former resident of Crown Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Verle Van Clake and family, former residents of Lowell.
This August 23, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
    Pfc. Lisand S. Bales, stationed at Orlando, Fla., returned to camp Sunday after a 20-day furlough at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bales and sister, Faye Barnes, sister Mrs. Carol Rosenbauer and brother, Bill Bales and family.
