The following January 6, 1921 Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 3:
    Maria Spannan was born in Germany, November 20*, 1853, and died in Chicago, December 26, 1920, aged 67 years, 1 month, 6 days. She came to this country when 12 years old and settled in Hanover township, where she resided until a few years ago when she went to Chicago. She was united in marriage to Peter Heiser. To this union 13 children were born, all of whom are living: Mathias, Katherine, Mrs. Bertha Ruck, Edward R., Michael M., Fred J., Mrs. Bertha* Burrill, William C., Charles, Robert and Anna, all of Chicago, Mrs. Peter A Berg, of Lowell, and Joseph, of Shelby. Her husband passed away December 22, 1916, and up to the time of his death there had been no deaths in the immediate family and he had never had a sick day until his last sickness. Funeral services were held at St. Martin's church at Cook, December 29, and were attended by a large number of her old friends and neighbors. Burial in the Cook cemetery.

* NOTES

  • Information from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Berg of California differs in that they listed Maria Spannon Heiser's birth date as Nov. 29, 1853. They also had different middle initials for some of the children.
  • The list of children in this article listed two daughters named "Bertha" -- Mrs. Bertha Ruck and Mrs. Bertha Burrill. Actually, Mrs. Burrill's first name should have been listed as Rose.
