The following October 11, 1928, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 2:
    Mary Ellen Hopkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hopkins, was born in Laporte county, Indiana, in 1850. She was married to Mortimer Castle, December 13, 1874. To this union were born two children, Metta, who died in early childhood, and Lucretia (Castle) Woolverton, who died at the birth of her son, Castle. Mrs. Castle journeyed to Oregon and brought back her infant grandson, whom she reared until her illness took her away. She was left a widow by the death of her husband in the spring of 1922. In February 1927 she was committed to the state hospital for the insane at Logansport, Ind., where she passed away Thursday, October 4, 1928, at the age of 78 years. She leaves one grandson, Castle Woolverton, of Central Point, Oregon, two sisters, Mrs. Clark Williams, of Lafayette, and Mrs. Kate Jewett, of Norfolk, Nebraska, and one brother, Lant Hopkins, of Buchanan, Mich., besides a number of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ Monday at 2 p.m. J.E. Poer, minister, conducted the services. Burial was in the Sanders cemetery in charge of Weaver and Son.
