Nelson Edmonds (1834-1915)
- Nelson Edmonds was born at Bradford, Canada, Sept. 18, 1835, and died at his home in Lowell, April 18, 1915, aged 79 years and 7 months.
He came to LaPorte county, Indiana, when but three years old and at the age of six years he came to West Creek township where he lived until he moved to Lowell in 1900.
He was united in marriage to Adelaide Drury of this county Sept. 22, 1861, which union has been blessed with four children, two of whom died in infancy, Marshall and Sarah. Orrville and Nannie reached the age of manhood and womanhood, but both preceded him to a better land. He leaves to mourn their loss a wife, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. In the year 1902 he met with a serious accident which crippled him for life and has made him a great sufferer, but through all of it he has been most patient.
Mr. Edmonds has lived in this community all of his life and you know him which knowledge has been a help to you many times. Congeniality was his greatest fault and true friendship his slogan.
The greatest eulogy was paid him this morning when it was remarked that he had never done anything of which his grandchildren need be ashamed.
Funeral services were held at his late home Monday at 2:30 p.m. and were attended by a large number of his old friends and neighbors. Rev. V.B. Servies, pastor of the M.E. church, preached the funeral sermon. Mrs. J.W. Belshaw and Mrs. Eldon Hayhurst sang several songs. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the burial service. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery. The following nephews acted as pallbearers: Harry Gordon, Merritt Sprague, Hermie Hayden, Earl Hayden, Nelson Hayden and Jodie Hayden.
