Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Sprague Mark Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Sprague marked fifty years of married happiness on Wednesday, August 24 and on Sunday, August 21 they were entertained at a lovely anniversary dinner held at The Buckley House.

The affair was planned by their children and families, Mrs. Gladys Imes of Highland, Elmo of Crown Point, and Roy of Washington, Ill. The couple has six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

On Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Sprague were dinner guests in the Jodie Hayden home, brother of Mrs. Sprague. The evening was turned into a most delightful surprise when members of a club to which the Spragues and Haydens belong, staged a gala party.

Merritt Sprague and Edna Hayden pledged their marriage vows in Lowell on Aug. 24, 1905 with the Rev. Mr. Idle of the First Methodist church solemnizing the rite. Through the years the couple has resided in Lowell.

The daughter of William and Marie Hayden, West Creek farmers, Edna taught school in West Creek before her marriage. Merritt, son of Jerry and Melissa Sprague, was born in Hebron. He attended school in Lowell and like his father was a skilled decorator. After 52 years at his trade, Mr. Sprague is now in semi-retirement.

The couple built a new house at 124 Parkview Ave., seven years ago. Both are active, and their host of friends wish them many more happy anniversaries.
