This August 23, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Paul Dierks, Bob Spry, Bobby Hancock and Dick Ready left last Wednesday for naval duty. Dierks enlisted in the navy and was sent to Great Lakes for his "boot" training. Spry, Ready and Hancock enlisted in the naval reserves and are now at home awaiting call.

This September 13, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Paul D. Dierks, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dierks, Lowell, is receiving his initial naval indoctrination at the U.S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.
    His recruit training consists of instruction in seamanship, military drill, and general naval procedure. During this period a series of aptitude tests will be taken by the recruit to determine whether he will be assigned to a naval service school, to a shore station, or to immediate duty at sea.
    When his recruit training is completed, the seaman will receive a period of leave.

This September 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
    Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dierks and children spent Sunday at Great Lakes, Ill., with their son and brother, Paul, who is taking his "boot" training at the naval station.

This October 11, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
    Paul Dierks, who has completed his "boot" training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, is enjoying a leave from duty with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dierks.

This March 14, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Paul Dierks, H.A. 2/c, writes his parents, the Leo Dierks, that he has been transferred to the island of Guam from Pearl Harbor, where he has been the past few months. He was O.K. when the letter was written.

This September 18, 1947, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 3:
    Ph. M 3/c Paul Dierks arrived home last Wednesday night from the island of Guam, where he has been serving with the U.S. Navy the past year. Paul will visit his parents, the Leo Dierks, and sisters and brother until his leave expires, when he will return for one more year in the service.

This November 6, 1947, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 5:
    Paul Dierks, Ph. M. 2/c, who has been here the past 45 days with his parents, the Leo Dierks, and sisters and brother, left Sunday for his post of duty. He has one more year of duty left before his enlistment expires.

This September 9, 1948, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
    Paul Dierks, Ph.M. 3/c, arrived home last Friday after completing his enlistment in the U.S. navy. He was discharged Thursday of last week. He spent his entire enlistment in the Pacific area.
