A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from a June 1955 Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    FAMILY GATHERING MARKS BIRTHDAY OF FRANK MIX

    A picnic style family dinner at the home of their granddaughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Curless, Cindy, and Timmy, Sunday, honored Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mix, and celebrated Frank's 83rd birthday.

    It was a gala event for the Mixes, for the occasion brought together everyone of their family -- children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. They included Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Edmondson and John; Mr. and Mrs. Garland Fish; Dickie Gene and Gayle Ann, of Lowell; Mr. and Mrs. John Borum, Susan and Michael of Kendalville; Mrs. Paul Fernandez and daughter Virginia of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kessler, Steven, David and Susan, of Chicago.

    Virginia Kessler remained for a visit with her sister and family, the Garland Fishes, and the Broom family visited until Tuesday with area relatives. John Borum spent Monday in Lafayette, where he attended an assistant manager's meeting of the Sears, Roebuck, and Co., held at the Fowler Hotel.


The following unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated Nov. 3, 1955, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
    Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Edmondson and Johnny spent the weekend at Qunicy, Ind.., with Mrs. Edmondson's parents, the Frank Mixes. On Sunday they were joined at dinner by the Edmondsons' daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Curless., Cindy and Timmy, and coming from Huntington were the senior James Curlesses. The occasion marked the 59th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Mix, which falls on Nov. 2. Former residents here, the Mixes many Lowell friends extend congratulations and best wishes.

A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-dated April 12, 1956, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
    Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mix will return this week to their home at Quincy, after spending the winter season here to be near their daughter and family, the Arthur Edmondsons. Before leaving, Frank made a tour of the Tribune to take stock of recent improvements. He formerly was a printer here for many years.

The following newspaper article, hand-dated as being from Nov. 11, 1956, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    R.F. Mixes, Former Residents Mark 60th Anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. R.F. Mix of Quincy, Ind., former Lowell residents, marked their 60th wedding anniversary on Friday, November 2, and were honored on Sunday when their family planned a turkey dinner with "all the trimmings," including a beautifully decorated anniversary cake.

    Present from Lowell were their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Edmondson and son John, and daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Curless, Cindy and Timmy, also the C.U. Ragons, special friends of the Mixes. Mr. Mix was a printer at the Lowell Tribune. Mr. Ragon was publisher. Joining the group in Quincy were the Edmondson's daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Borum, Susan and Michael of Kendallville, and their foster son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Hord Maddock and Danny of Indianapolis; also, Mr. Mix's niece, Mrs. Harry Benson; his nephews and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller, and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Miller, all of Corydon.

    Mr. and Mrs. Mix were married in Salem, Ind., on the bride's birthday, by Rev. J.H. Carnes, pastor of the Salem Methodist church. Rev. Carnes is still living, and makes his home in Richmond, where he still performs many pastoral duties.

    The Mixes were remembered with many lovely gifts and congratulatory cards. A special gift from the neighborhood was a beautiful arrangement of fall flowers.
