A January 4, 1945, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 1) listed Robert E. Tuttle of Shelby as a recent navy inductee:

    More Volunteers and Inductees In Service

    One Lowell boy, Wayne Misner, rural route 1, and three other south end boys, Robert E. Tuttle and Charles F. Stowell, both of Shelby, and Clell A. Dodson, Schneider, ate included in the latest contingent going from Local Board No. 1, Crown Point.

This February 15, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Cpl. Robert Tuttle, stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga., is here spending a furlough with his wife and little daughter, and other relatives.

This March 8, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
    Cpl. Robert Tuttle is here for a short stay with his wife and little daughter, and his parents, the Ike Tuttles. He has been stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., and will report at Fort Meade, Md. upon completion of his leave.

A copy of an Robert Emery Tuttle's Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy was brought to the library by his neice, Rosetta Hotler. It states:
    Robert Emery Tuttle Seaman First Class USNR is Honorably Discharged from the US Naval Personel Separation Center Great Lakes, Illinois and from the Naval Service of the United States this 14th day of April 1946. This certificate is awarded as a Testimony of Fidelity and Obedience.
