This July 4, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
    Robert Spry, Yeo, 3/c, son of the Milton Sprys, who was recently promoted to that rank from S 1/c, is home from Norfolk, Va., on a 15-day leave. Other navy boys home on leave are Robert Shipman, Harold Walker, Kenneth Jones and Herbert Williams.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 31, 1947, issue (page 3, column 4):

    SERVING ABOARD USS ZELLARS

    Robert Francis Shipman, Jr., fireman, first class, son of Robert F. Shipman, Sr., of Route 3, Lowell, is now serving aboard the USS Zellars.
    Shipman entered the Naval service on April 24, 1946, and received his recruit training at Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill.

This November 27, 1947, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, columns 1-2. (Note that the middle initial of his name is wrong in this article.):

    VISITS VENICE AND TRIESTE, ITALY

    Robert J. Shipman, fireman, first class, son of R.F. Shipman of route 2, Lowell, has visited Venice and Trieste, Italy, while serving aboard the destroyer USS Zellars, on his tour of Mediterranean Sea ports.
    Crew members of the Zellars, a unit of Destroyer Squadron 2, spent a great deal of time in the modern and spacious shops at Venice, the "city of canals and gondolas."
    The ship is scheduled to stop at Taranto, Italy, and Gibraltar before returning to the United States in December.
