- Roland J. Hoffman, Walter H. Crouch and Richard S. Walden, who reported on Tuesday of last week for induction in the armed forces, were assigned to serve with the Marine Corps. 16 were inducted into the army -- Ronald A. Gross, Alfred E. Smith, Brice A. Weiler, Charles G. Steffel, Everett L. Molden, Charles R. Krieter, John A. Clemens, Raymond F. Crilley, Joseph G. Schelfo, Richard F. Van Doring, Lester L. Wien, William J. Johnson, James L. Scott, Robert M. Kedzo, Herbert R.E. Gerst and Donald J. Miller.
This February 7, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Roland Hoffman, L.H.S. graduate with the class of '50, who is in San Diego since his induction January 8th, would enjoy receiving letters from former school friends. Address: Pvt. Roland Hoffman, 1277054, Plt. 34, 7th Rec. Trn. Bn., USMC, San Diego, Calif.
The following July 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 6:
- Concluding a 15-day leave, Roland Hoffman, son of Irvin Hoffman of Cedar Lake, left Sunday evening via United Air Lines for California. Roland, a graduate of Lowell high school, class of 1950, enlisted in the Marines last January and after completing boot training in California was sent to Virginia to study the repair of large guns, the course which he recently completed.
