Seymour Kanaar (1867-1943)

This Dec. 16, 1943, obituary from an unknown source can be found in the Local History Clipping Files at the Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 2, page 17):
    Seymour Kanaar was born in LaPorte county, Ind., April 5, 1867, and passed away at Hines hospital, Maywood, Ill., on Nov. 26 at the age of 76 years. He enlisted in Co. M., 157th Indiana infantry April 15, 1898 during the Spanish-American war and served until his discharge when peace was declared.
    He was united in marriage to Jennie Joslin at Plymouth, Ind., on September 20,1898, and after living near Plymouth for several years, Mr. and Mrs. Kanaar moved to Lowell where they have since resided for nearly 40 years. To this union one son, Joseph, of Springfield, Ill., was born.
    Mr. Kanaar was well known over this community. For a number of years he conducted a meat market in the building now occupied by the postoffice, and after disposing of the business, was nightwatchman for several years.
    He was a member of Claude D. Fish Camp No. 91, United Spanish War Veterans, of Plymouth, Ind.
    He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, son Joseph, one brother, Edward, and one sister, Mrs. Cora Taylor.
    Funeral services were held at the Sheets funeral home on Nov. 30th, Rev. E.L. Worley officiating. Interment with military services, conducted by Lowell Post 101 American Legion, was made in Lowell cemetery under the direction of Kenneth Sheets.
