Simon Koplin (1844-1929)
- Simon Koplin was born February 22, 1844, in Ohio and died at his home near Lowell March 30, 1929. He came to Whitney County when he was five, then came to Lake County at the age of 20.
On May 26, 1867, he was married to Elisabeth Kinsley who departed this life December 16, 1881. To this union were born six children: One who died in infancy; Mrs. Elnora Alger, of Hammond; Bert Koplin, of Ontario, Oregon; Mrs. Vina Hayden, Roanoke, Ind.; and Lois and George, at home. There are 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday, April 1. Rev. J. Paul Hadley, pastor of the Lake Prairie Church, conducted the services. The men's quartette of the church furnished the music. Interment was made in the Lake Prairie cemetery, with Undertakers Sheets and Son in charge.
Those attending the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs., Alva Hayden, of Roanoke, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Otis Clausen, of Fort Wayne, Ind; Mrs. Cora Smith, Peru, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dunkeron and son Lester Percy, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Walstrom and children, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Merian and children, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Alger, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Frankovitch, Mrs. Elda Stalter, of Hammond.
