A copy of the following newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    FORMER RESIDENT CALLED

    Mrs. Vina Hayden, aged 63, 2128 Broadway, died of heart trouble at 11 p.m. Wednesday at the home of her son, Kitchell Hayden, near Roanoke, after a short illness. She was born in Lake County, Ind., February 1, 1871, and was a member of the Munson Chapel M.E. church in Lafayette Township.

    Surviving are the husband, Alva Hayden, Sr.; three daughters, Mrs. Mabel Weikel of St. Joe; Mrs. Grace Claussen, of this city, and Mrs. Sylvia Shultz, of Medford, Wis.; four sons, Alva Jr., at home; Clyde, of Kendallville; Kermit of Manson, Washington, and Kitchell; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Burt Koplin of Ontario, Oregon, and George Koplin, of Lowell; two sisters, Mrs. Elnora Alger, of Hammond, and Miss Lois Koplin, of Lowell.

    Funeral services were held on Saturday at the home at 2:15 p.m. and at Munson Chapel at 3 p.m. Burial in the Prairie Grove cemetery.

    Mrs. Hayden was well known here at her former home, and her large circle of friends sincerely regret to hear of her death.

    Attending the funeral from here were: Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hayden, Mr. and Mrs. Ernie VanAlstine, Mr. and Mrs. George Bailey, Mrs. Ursula Phebus, Mrs. Lyrrell Brown, Mrs. Lyrrell Hathaway, Miss Lois Koplin, George Koplin, Mrs. Elnora Alger.
