This February 17, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Thayne, S 2/c, who has been transferred from Norfolk, Va., to Key West, Fla., writes that he too, is getting along fine.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 18, 1945, issue (page 7, column 2):
    Thayne Fleener, stationed in Key West, Fla., writes his mother that he has been promoted to Gunner's Mate 3/c, and expects to see duty with the fleet soon.

This March 22, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Thayne Fleener, G.M. 3/c, is home enjoying a 20-day leave from his duties at Key West, Fla. He is visiting his mother, Mrs. Emma Fleener, and other relatives and friends.

A September 13, 1945, Lowell Tribune article (page 2, column 1) about Joseph L. Fleener had this to say about his brother T.C. Fleener:
    T.C. Fleener is a Gunner's Mate 3/c, serving on the USS Boulder Victory.

This May 16, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 6:
    Thayne C. Fleener, GM 3/c and Mainard Bright S 1/c, have received their discharges from naval service the past week, and are now at home here.
