    Wesley Schissler spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler. Wesley will leave Purdue University, where he has been a student, when the unit of which he is a member will be sent to Camp Rucker, Alabama for advanced training. He received his basic training with the R.O.T.C. at Purdue. He is with the service battery of the 393rd Field Artillery and expects to go to Camp Rucker the latter part of this month.

    After spending the week-end with his parents, Wesley Schissler left Sunday for Camp Rucker, Alabama, where he will receive advanced training. He was accompanied by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler, who remained with him until his unit entrained camp. The unit, made up of men from Lafayette, Fowler, and Frankfort, comprises the 393rd field artillery, and Wes is a member of the service battery.

    A phone call Friday night from Wesley Schissler, informed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler, that he had been promoted to Private First Class. Bn., Camp Rucker, Ozark, Alabama.

    Andy Schissler returned home last Friday following his visit in the south. Andy visited his son Wesly at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Wes, who was able to receive a three-day pass, accompanied Andy to the home of the Fred Eberts near Tampa, for a short visit.

    Mr and Mrs. Andy Schissler and Judy were surprised Saturday afternoon with the arrival of their son and brother Wesley, who has been stationed for the past few months at Camp Rucker, Alabama. Wes, who will be home for five days, has received a promotion to the rank of Corporal. After his return to Camp Rucker, he is scheduled to leave on New Year's Day for Camp Polk, Louisiana, where he will be stationed.

    Friends of Cpl. Wesley Schissler will be glad to learn that he is greatly improved following his hospitalization at Camp Polk, La. Wesley, who was ill with pneumonia, has been stationed at Camp Polk since the first of the year.

This May 10, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 3, column 3:
    Cpl. Wesley Schissler is also enjoying a ten furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler, and his sister, Judy. Wesley has been stationed at Camp Polk, Lousiana.

The following May 24, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 2:
    During Wesley Schissler's furlough from Camp Polk, Louisiana, he and Mrs. Schissler spent a weekend in Beloit, Wisconsin, where he attended a semi-formal dance at Beloit College. Guests last week of Mr. and Mrs. Schissler at their home in Shelby were Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Gross of Chicago. On Tuesday evening, supper guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gross and family, Keith and Karen Greene, all of Chicago, and David Runyon of Shelby. On Wednesday evening, Wesley returned to duty at Camp Polk.

This August 9, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 2:
    Cpl. Wesley Schissler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schissler, is enjoying a 12-day furlough with his parents, after which he will resume his duties at Camp Polk, La.

The following November 8, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 3:
    Cpl. Wesley Schissler came Friday from Camp Polk, Louisiana, to spend two weeks at the home of his parents and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler and Judy, in Shelby. Wesley, after graduating from L.H.S., attended Purdue University, where in his sophomore year he was a member of the ROTC group which was called to active duty. Wesley is an army engineer and upon conclusion of his furlough he will be sent to Germany. He was accompanied home by Daniel Barnard of Gary, whose parents and brother, the Alger Barnards and David, were Sunday dinner guests in the Schissler home. Daniel returned home with them.

The following November 22, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 4:
    Cpl. Wesley Schissler returned to a two week furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schissler, and his sister, Judy. Wesley is scheduled to leave for overseas duty in Germany during the early part of December.

The following December 13, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 5:
    Cpl. Wesley E. Schissler sailed Monday for overseas duty in Germany. Friends who would like to write to Wes may do so at the following address: Cpl. Wesley E. Schissler, 17326049, Service Btry., 393rd F.A. Bn., APO 743, c/o P.M. New York, N.Y. Wesley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler, has been in the service for 15 months.

The following July 31, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, columns 3-4:
    Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Andy Schissler that their son, Wesley, has arrived in the States, following eight months of service in Germany. Arriving at Camp Kilmer, N.J., on Saturday, Wes was then scheduled to go to Camp Breckenridge, Ky., for discharge. He has been in the Army for two years.

The following August 7, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Wesley Schissler arrived home Tuesday and has now been discharged from the army after two years service. For the past eight months, Wes has served in Germany. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schissler, Wes was a student at Purdue prior to his army service.
