Funeral Services Held Monday for Wm. Purdy
Lowell lost a widely-known resident in the passing of William Purdy, 72, whose death occurred suddenly on December 29th while a guest in the home of his nephew and niece, Dr. and Mrs. George Stuppy in Chicago.A life-time resident of Cedar Creek township, "Bill" was born on February 17, 1879, the son of Sarah McConnell and J.H. Purdy. He attended Lowell public schools and Valparaiso university and for a time was employed by the Monon railroad. Later he assisted his father in farming. Throughout his life he lived at home with his parents and sister, Mrs. Bessie Plamondon, who passed away last fall. Another sister, Ella R. Stuppy, preceded him in death in 1913. His devotion to his parents and sisters was marked by kindness and consideration.
"Bill" was jovial, pleasant natured and always a good neighbor. He had many interests. He was primarily a farmer and in recent years he gave much time to civic activities and to his hobby of gardening. Long a familiar figure, he will be greatly missed by his many relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held in the Sheets funeral home at 2:00 p.m., Monday, with the Rev. E.M. Boney, pastor of St. Edward's church, officiating. Interment was in the Lowell cemetery.
