Sarah McConnell Rollins Purdy (1839-1920)

- Sarah Purdy, daughter of Zebulon and Elizabeth McConnell was born in Tioga County, New York, June 29, 1839. She grew to womanhood in New York and was untied in marriage to George Rollins. To this union were born two daughters, Etheleen and Ella; both preceded her to the great beyond. Etheleen died in 1882 and Ella Stuppy in 1913.
Her husband, George Rollins, was killed in the battle of Fredericksburg. She was married to J.H.Purdy in 1878. To this union was born one son, Will Purdy. She raised two foster daughters, Bessie and Mabel Purdy.
Mrs. Purdy passed away May 29, 1920, at the age of 81 years and 11 months. Her husband, one son, one foster daughter, five grandchildren, two sisters, two brothers and a host of friends mourn her departure. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and and a friend to all who knew her.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday at 2 p.m., and were attended by a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends. C.A. Brown, pastor of the M.E. church, preached the funeral sermon. Interment in the Lowell cemetery. Undertaker William Sheets had charge of the burial service. The following acted as pall bearers: Dr. J.A.Taylor, E.J. Pixley, H.J. Stowell, Charles Palmer, George J. Hoevet and L.W. Ragon.
