William Leander Odle (1892-1925)
- William Leander Odle, son of Daniel E. and Mary A. Odle, was born in Colfax Township, Newton county, Indiana, May 15, 1892, and died in Indianapolis, March 14, 1925, being 32 years, 9 months and 27 days old.
He came from a family of 10 children. Two preceded him in death.
His entire life was spent in Newton county where everyone who knew him loved and respected him. He enlisted in the service of his country at Kentland, July 22, 1918, and served as a machinist in Motor Transport Co. No. 720 until May 26, 1919, when [he] received an honorable discharge.
He was united in marriage to Lydia A. Cox April 15, 1920, and to this union was born one child, Dortha. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides his wife and one daughter, a father and mother, three brothers and four sisters namely: Harry of Kniman, Giles of Laporte and John M. of Morocco, Mrs. Blanch Hauffman and Mrs. May Goldsberry of Hammond, Mrs. Effie Sharp of Indianapolis and Mrs. Myrtle Rowan of Fair Oaks; beside a host of other relatives and friends. The wife has lost a good husband, the daughter a kind and loving father, the community a highly esteemed and honorable neighbor.
Funeral services were held at the home ten miles south of Shelby at 2 o'clock Monday, Rev. C.A. Brown of the Lowell Methodist Church preaching the sermon. Interment at the Orchard Grove [Cemetery].
