The following July 28, 1921, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 6. Unfortunately, the newsprint was smeared, so the exact date he died could not be read, nor could his exact age. Creston Cemetery records at the Lowell Public Library show that his headstone had only the years of his birth and his death, and not the exact dates.

Dies from Injuries

Dr. Jesse L. Hill passed away at his home northwest of town last Wednesday afternoon from the effects of injuries received from a fall. It seems that he was helping do some work around the barn and had gone to the top of a ladder to open a door so they could get some hay into the barn. He pushed on the door and when it opened he lost his balance and fell into the barn, alighting on the floor below. He had several ribs broken and it is supposed that his lungs were punctured. The accident happened about 11:30 a.m. and he died at 2 p.m.

Obituary

Jesse L. Hill was born December 22, 1844, at Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana, and passed away July __, 1921, aged 76 years, 6 months and __ days.

At the age of eight years he came with his father's family and settled near Creston, He received his education in the Lowell school, afterwards teaching in the Lake county schools. He graduated in medicine and surgery in Rush Medical College, Chicago in 18 and also took a post graduate course there in 1887. He then opened an office for practice of medicine in South Chicago.

He was married to Jane Livingston November 10, 1875. To this union were born four children: Mrs. T.F. Clifford, El Reno, Okla.; Mrs. Frank Clark, Walters, Okla.; James Hill, Lowell; and Luther Hill, of Duncan, Okla.

He had practiced medicine in the community for 35 years. He was a Mason for fifty years, was also a member of the Easter[n] Star lodge, and a charter member of the Lake county Medical society. He was one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Lowell, and its first vice-president. Dr. Hill spent several of the latter years of his life in Oklahoma. A large share of his life was spent on the family homestead north of Lowell. He was raised a Baptist and was a consistent Christian.

Dr. Hill is survived by his wife, four children, six grand-children and a sister, Mrs. Henry Surprise, of Lowell.

Funeral services were held at the Creston M.E. church at 2 p.m. Saturday. The services were in charge of Colfax Masonic lodge of Lowell, of which he was a member for many years. Rev. C.A. Brown assisted by Rev. J.I. Brimberry, conducted the service. Mrs. Harry Foster and Mrs. George Foster sang, with Mrs. C.A. Brown accompanist. Interment was made in Creston cemetery, in charge of Undertaker William Sheets.
