Coming to Lake county as he did in an early day, he experienced many of the hardships and inconveniences of a new settlement, which was almost a wilderness, and which he saw grow into a most beautiful country. Mr. Nichols located about five miles northeast of Lowell, where he resided for 50 years, moving to Lowell in the fall of 1904, where he has since made his home. In 1860 he united with the M.E. church at Orchard Grove, and has lived a consistent Christian life since.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Saturday at 1 p.m. and were attended by a large number of old friends and neighbors. Rev. V.B. Servies preached the funeral sermon. The church choir furnished the music. Interment was made in the mausoleum building. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the burial service.
He leaves to mourn him his six children, three brothers -- Martin and Elery, of Hebron, and Jacob, of Horace, Kansas; two sisters -- Mrs. Polly Odell, Belford, Iowa, and Mrs. Nellie Mahler, of Lowell; 13 grand- children and nine great-grand-children, who have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
