The following February 24, 1927, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 3:

    WELL KNOWN LADY CALLED

    Miss Ella Palmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Palmer, who formerly lived with her parents in Lowell, but for a number [of years] has lived at Hammond, passed away at the family home in that city Sunday morning after a several months illness. Funeral services were held at the home in Hammond yesterday at 1:30 p.m. Interment was made in the family lot in Lowell cemetery. Obituary next week.

This March 3, 1927, Lowell Tribune obituary appeared on page 4, column 2:
    Ella Asenath, daughter of James C. and Celia J. Palmer, was born at Creston, Ind., January 17, 1886, and entered in to rest February 21, 1927.

    She graduated from the Grammar school at Creston and from the Lowell High school. Later she attended the State Normal School at Terre Haute, Ind., and Winona College at Winona Lake, Ind. For five years she taught school in Lake county, giving of herself to the development and improvement of the minds and character of her pupils.

    In 1917 she came to Hammond, later securing employment as Savings Teller in the Citizens' National Bank, which position she held until the time of her death.

    She united with the Creston M.E. church under the ministry of Rev. Mr. Hossman, in 1898, later removing her membership to Lowell and Hyde Park M.E. church. Miss Palmer was greatly interested in the work of the church and served efficiently in the Sunday school and Epworth League of which organization she was District Secretary.

    She is survived by a loving father, mother, two sisters -- Mrs. Clifford Thompson, of Lowell and Mrs. Harry Hathaway, of DesPlaines, Ill.; three brothers -- Robert R., Oliver J. and Harold O., of Hammond; two nieces, who were reared in the Palmer home, Miss Lela Taylor, who is now in Prescott, Arizona, and Miss Leona Taylor, one nephew and eight nieces, and a multitude of friends.

    Funeral services were held at the Hyde Park M.E. church in Hammond Wednesday of last week. The services were conducted by Rev. Deal, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. V.B. Servies, formerly pastor of the Lowell M.E. church, but now located at Culver. Interment was made in the family lot in Lowell cemetery in charge of Undertakers Weaver and Son.
