MRS. EVELYN (ESTY) POTTER PASSES AWAY
This community was shocked Tuesday morning when the news of the sudden death of Mrs. Evelyn (Esty) Potter was received. She passed away at her home in Madison, Wis. The remains, accompanied by her husband, arrived here at 10:05 yesterday morning and were taken to the home of her grand-mother, Mrs. Nelson Edmonds. Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Edmonds today (Thursday) at 2 P.M. Obituary next week.
An artilce titled "Methodist Church Notes," which was in the same issue of the paper, on the same page and column, contained the following paragraph about Mrs. Potter:
- We were grieved to learn of the sudden death of Evelyn (Esty) Potter at Madison, Wisconsin, Monday. She was a loyal member of the Church, always mindful of it when away as well as when at home.
This July 24, 1924, Lowell Tribune obituary appeared on page 8, column 4:
- Evelyn Edmonds Esty, daughter of Herbert and Nannie Esty, was born at Creston, Indiana, October 2, 1894. She united in marriage with Donald Potter, of Madison, Wisconsin, February 12, 1924.
She passed away at the Madison General hospital on the morning of July 15, 1924, at the close of an earthly life of 29 years, 9 months and 13 days.
Evelyn was received into the Methodist Church at Creston in 1912. In 1916 she transferred her membership to Lowell where her membership remained. She was a faithful member of the Church always mindful of its needs and its welfare whether living here or elsewhere. She was always willing to do anything for her church. She would teach a Sunday School class or assist in an Epworth League meeting. She delighted in Christian work.
On the death of her mother she lived with her grandmother, Mrs. Adelaide Edmonds, who mourns her going as one as dear to her as life. Two years ago while engaged in work for the government at Washington City, she resigned her position and hurried across the continent to the bedside of her father in California and remained with him until his death.
Her husband, of Madison, Wisconsin, her grandmother, of Lowell, survive her. And in California she leaves two sisters, one brother, four half sisters and her step-mother, to mourn her loss.
Evelyn Esty Potter was a Christian, faithful to her Savior, loving her Church, devoted to her husband, ever mindful of her friends.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Edmonds Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the M.E. Church, being in charge. The following acted as pall-bearers: Harry Gordon, Lester W. Brown, Amos Brannon, George Foster, Andrew Cutler, Merle Goodwin. The flower girls were: Misses Evelyn Hayhurst, Ruth Clark, Catherine Berg. Florence McCord, May Yates and Sarah Landon. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery, Undertaker William Sheets being in charge of the burial service.
