The following article, hand-dated 1956, from an unidentified newspaper was found in Town Historian Richard Schmal's obituary collection:
    George F. Halfman, 38, Army veteran of World War II, died Mon., June 11th, at St. Margaret's Hospital in Hammmond. He became ill while in service and suffered through the past 13 years. He was bedridden the last four and one half years, cared for by his wife, Fern, at their home on R.R.4, Cedar Lake. George is a native of Lowell, the son of Joseph Halfman. His mother is deceased. Other survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Irene LaSevers of Gary, Mrs. Anne Scholtz of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Marion Westly of Hobart and Mrs. Lucille Mueller of St. Johns, Mich.; three bothers, Carl of Cedar Lake and Francis and Wilbur of Lowell. Members of the Holy Name Society and friends will gather at 8 p.m. this evening in the Eller Funeral Home, Cedar Lake, to pray the rosary. The Rev. Father Joseph Wonderly will officiate at the 9 a.m. requiem mass at Holy Name Church in Cook Fri., June 15th. Interment will be made in the Holy Name Cemetery.
