Ione Lodema Pinkerton (1903-1924)

The following November 20, 1924 Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 4, column 2:
    Ione Lodema Pinkerton, daughter of C.D. and Minnie Pinkerton, was born in West Creek Township, Lake Co., Indiana, August 25, 1903. She died at her home in the same vicinity November 11, 1924, at the age of 21 years, 2 months, 16 days. Death followed a prolonged illness which compelled her to discontinue her studies when in the third year of High School. Ione united with the Christian Church at Lowell and was baptized by D. Emmet Snyder on February 27, 1921. She was a faithful and earnest Christian, an obedient, loving daughter and sister; exceedingly patient in all her suffering.

    She leaves to mourn her loss, her father, mother, three sisters, Leoti, Delta and Mrs. Fred Fisher; five brothers, Desmoine, Dewey, Cordell, Ogden, all living near Lowell, and Dr. Forest J. Pinkerton, of Honolulu, Hawaii; also an aged grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Pinkerton, of Lowell; and a large number of other relatives and friends.

    The funeral was held Thursday at 2 P.M. from the Christian Church in Lowell. A very large number of relatives and friends attended the services. Rev. Nickerson, pastor of the Christian church, conducted the services.

    The floral tokens were many and beautiful and were carried by eight girl friends, Lyrill Taylor, Ruth Dahl, Irene Hadders, Eleanor Dahl, Madeline Stadt, Eleanor Nichols, Mable Stadt and Violet Paulsen.

    Six young men acted as pall-bearers: John Larson, Theodore Gerner, Ernest Wooldridge, John Gerner, Jr., Ivan Hayhurst and Virgil Nichols.

    The remains were laid to rest in the Sanders cemetery. Undertaker William Sheets had charge of the burial service.

    Relatives attending the funeral from out of town were: George Pinkerton, wife and daughters Grace and Mildred, Mrs. Fred Fisher and daughter Martha, John Pinkerton, Mrs. W.V. Carpenter and Nelson Pinkerton of Wanatah; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Wemple, Mrs. Harry Chase, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sisson, of Gary; Guy Nichols, wife and son, Clarence Hoshaw, wife and son, Bert D. Hayden, wife, son and daughter, of Crown Point; Mrs. Floyd Hoshaw and son, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hoshaw, of Winfield; Mr. and Mrs. David Pinkerton of Whiting; Bert Nichols, Burley G. Price, Mrs. Lewis Worley and two sons, Mrs. Chris Henning and son, Mrs. Alvin Sargent and son, of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. Townsend Denny, of Momence, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Edson Worley, son and daughter, Curtis Trump, of Donovan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rumsey and daughters, Vivian, Fondelete, Chlotielde, Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith and sons, Mrs. Reyels and daughter, Ira Trump, of Shelby; Will Hoshaw and family, of Leroy; Mrs. Bert Mulliken and daughter, Mrs. Alfred Ackerman, of Detroit, Mich.

        "Not now, but in the coming years
        It may be in the better land
        We'll know the meaning of our tears
        And there, yes, there we'll understand."
