Isabel Spalding Miller (1872-1917)

- Mrs. Fred Miller left Saturday morning for Eau Claire, Wis., where she goes to visit her sister, Mrs. A.L. Thompson, and family.
An October 26, 1916, Lowell Tribune article about the sixtieth wedding anniversary of Joshua and Cynthia (nee Dodge) Spalding lists Mrs. Fred Miller as one of their eight children.
An obituary of Cynthia Dodge Spalding mentioned that her daughter, Isabel Miller, had died in December 1917.
A copy of the following newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
- Isabel (Spaulding*) Miller was born in West Creek Township, Lake County, Indiana, July 17, 1872, and died at her home in Cedar Creek Township, December 11, 1917, at the age of 45 years, 4 months and 24 years. With the exception of three years which she spent in Chicago, her life was lived in Lake County. At the age of twenty she united with the M.E. Church, of which she remained a faithful member.
She was united in marriage to Fred S. Miller December 2, 1902, and lived a quiet, happy home life, serving her loved ones and helping in many good causes outside her home.
She leaves to mourn her untimely death her husband, an aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Spaulding, three sisters and three brothers, Mrs. A.L. Thompson, of Eau Claire, Wis.; Mrs. Louie Willing, of Valparaiso; Mrs. Cass Scritchfield, of Lowell; Milo Spaulding, of Iowa, La.; Levi Spaulding of Grants Pass, Ore.; and Henry Spaulding, of San Bruno, Calif.
Funeral services were held last Thursday in the M.E. Church, Rev. Servies, assisted by Rev. Brown, officiating. She chose the text which was, "She has done all she could" -- Mark 14:1-10. Beautiful and appropriate music was furnished by the choir. Undertaker John Castle had charge of the burial service and her six brothers-in-law acted as pall bearers. The remains were laid to rest in the Lowell cemetery to await the Resurrection morn.
* NOTE -- Mrs. Miller's maiden name has different spellings in various articles. "Spalding" and "Spaulding" are the two most common spellings.
