Friedrich Simon "Fred" Miller (1872-1956)

The following article comes from the March 29, 1902, Lowell Souvenir (page 6, column 3), which can be found in the Local History Files in the drawer labeled "Old Newspapers":
    While Fred Miller and Claude Bowles, of West Creek, were driving home in a two-horse wagon Thursday evening, and had arrived at the Buncombe school house, the team ran away, caused by one of the horses getting over the tongue and the other one kicking. The team ran two miles, one of the lines having broken. Miller and Bowles were thrown into a ditch, while the horses were run down. Geo. Bailey took the team home for them, while they hoofed it.
This excerpt from a March 1, 1917, Lowell Tribune article about events at the high school was found on page 1, column 2:
    The following people visited high school last week: Helen Lee, Lotus Williams, Vernard Chapman, Agnes Powell, Floyd Hayhurst, Fred Miller, Mrs. Little, Florence Stuppy and the Misses Dahl.
This March 15, 1917, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 1:
    Fred Miller is serving as a juror in room 2 of the Superior Court at Hammond.
Another article in the same issue (page 6, column 2) follows:
    Mr. and Mrs. Ed Swartz of South Chicago, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller from Saturday night until Monday morning.
A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Fred Miller, 84, Lowell Native, Dies At Glen Dora, Calif

    Lowell relatives and friends are extended sympathy in the death of Fred S. Miller, 84, who passed away December 28 at his home in Glen Dora, California.

    Mr. Miller, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Miller of Lowell, was born here August 6, 1872. His wife is the former Stella Stuttzman, also of Lowell. The couple farmed in this community prior to moving to the West Coast, where for 37 years he operated an orange grove.

    From the Miller family of nine children, five remain. Surviving with his wife, Stella, are four sisters, Miss Emma Miller of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Anna Hayden of Azusa, Calif., Mrs. Ella Harrington of Pomona, Calif. and Mrs. Leno* Lindemer of Lowell; one brother, George Miller of Lowell, also many other relatives in the vicinity.

* NOTE -- One of the survivoros, listed in this article as "Mrs. Leno Lindemer," is actually "Lena Lindemer."
