The following April 21, 1955, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 2:

    MEMORIAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. A. CHILDERS

    Memorial services were held Monday afternoon, April 18, at the Sheets Funeral Home for Mrs. Nora (Metcalf) Childers, 64, who passed away Friday, April 15, at 4:05 p.m. in Gary Mercy hospital. Rev. E.L. Worley officiated at rites and burial was in the Lowell cemetery.

    The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Byron Metcalf, Nora was born in Lowell April 25, 1890. At an early age she was baptized in the Lowell Church of Christ.

    On September 12, 1908, she was married to Andrew Childers and through the years they resided here. Known by everyone as "Granny," Mrs. Childers always had a sunny smile and kind thought for everyone.

    The Childers had 13 children. A daughter died in infancy, also Mrs. Wanda Childers Grammer is deceased.

    Children surviving with her husband Andrew are 7 daughters, Mrs. Adeline Menefee, Mrs. Louise Kirchenstien and Mrs. Marjarie Monet of Lowell, Mrs. Evelyn Gasaway of Hammond, Mrs. Roma Buche of Crown Point, Mrs. Persis Hagle of Hobart, Mrs. Betty Shalapsik of Gary; four sons, Harold and Robert of Chicago, Ill., Jack of Fair Oaks, and John of East Chicago; 45 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Also four sisters, Mrs. Lotus Dickinson of Gary, Mrs. Mary Davis of Hammond, Mrs. Kathryn Paulsen and Mrs. Edith Sirois of Chicago; one brother, Edgar Metcalf of Gary.
