This April 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
    Robert L. Childers and Peter Wehle are now members of Uncle Sam's navy, having reported at Great Lakes naval training station for their boot training. They had been home on 10 days leave after signing up.
This May 25, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:

    Complete "Boot" Training

    S 2/c Pete Wehle and S2/c Bob Childers, who completed their boot training at Great Lakes last week, have both been here the past week on leave. On their return to the naval base, they will be assigned to duty elsewhere.
The following information was found on page 2, column 2 of the June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune:
    The Carrolls have received a letter from Bob Childers, who enlisted in the navy several weeks ago and is now stationed at Ft. Pierce, Florida. Bob asked them to say "hello" to his many friends here.
The following August 24, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 2:

    In Portland, Oregon

    Robert (Bob) L. Childers arrived in Portland, Oregon, from Maryland, straight across the U.S.A. and he says it's the best place he has been in thus far, except Lowell, his home town. He expects to be home for Christmas. Bob wishes to say "hello" to all his pals, and would like to have them write.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 1, 1945, issue (page 4, column 1):
    Seaman Robert Childers writes from somewhere in the Philippines that he is feeling fine and is having lots of fun trading with the natives. He also is caring for a pet monkey.
This August 1, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 4:
    Bob Childers, recently released from the navy, is vacationing thru the east to New York City, where he will visit friends. His sister, and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Micheal Shalapsik, of Gary, accompanied him. They will stop in Baltimore, Maryland to visit another sister, Mrs. Melvin Grammer and family.
