This April 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
- Robert L. Childers and Peter Wehle are now members of Uncle Sam's navy, having reported at Great Lakes naval training station for their boot training. They had been home on 10 days leave after signing up.
This April 20, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 2:
- Pete Wehle, who enlisted in the navy a few weeks ago, is now stationed at Great Lakes, where he is taking boot training. Pete, an ex-member of of the Printers' bowling team, commenting on his former outfit losing three games recently, said: "All the good bowlers are in the navy."
This May 25, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
Complete "Boot" Training
S 2/c Pete Wehle and S2/c Bob Childers, who completed their boot training at Great Lakes last week, have both been here the past week on leave. On their return to the naval base, they will be assigned to duty elsewhere.This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 4, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Mrs. Neil Blanchard, of Crown Point, who was in Lowell Tuesday, informed us they had heard from both their sons recently.
- A letter from Pfc. Neil Blanchard said he was enroute overseas, and would write more when he landed. He said he was feeling fine.
- Leslie Blanchard, S.M. 3/c, writes that he is still aboard a ship in the South Pacific, and had the surprise of his life recently when a number of sailors from another ship came aboard, and who should be among them but Pete Wehle, S 2/c, of Lowell. Les and Pete had an enjoyable visit talking of the old home town. Both the boys are getting along O.K.
This February 22, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, columns 1-2:
- Pete Wehle, S 3/c, now stationed "somewhere in the southwest Pacific" writes:
- I thought I'd better write you a few lines to let you know I'm still alive and kicking, also that I'm receiving the Lowell Tribune pretty often--of course they come in threes and fours, but it sure does pick up my morale to read all about the folks and stuff going on back home.
- There's not too much going on right now in this part of the Pacific, but I guess we still have the Nips on the run, because they have not been showing up lately.
- I guess we were feeling a little low over here around Xmas, but there wasn't much any of us could do about it--so we just had the best time we could in our own little way. Hic!!
This December 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- S 2/c Pete Wehle has been here the past few days visiting friends at the former family home. He is enjoying a fifteen day leave from duty.
