This November 15, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

Harlingen Army Air Field, Texas -- Pvt. Robert W. Atkinson of Lowell, Ind., began his nine-week basic training program here today.

This course consists of instructions in first aid, map and photo reading, close-order drill, military discipline and camouflage. Instructions in the use of the carbine and other small arms will be given. Forty hours of physical training and four-day bivouac.

Pvt. Charles W. McKinney, Jr., of Rural Route 2, Lowell, also began his nine-week basic training period at the same air field last week.

Pvt. Robert Atkinson has returned to camp at Clovis, N.M., after spending two weeks at home here with his sisters, Phyllis, Sally and Mary, and grandmother, Mrs. Hattie King.
