Sarah A. Garrison Scritchfield (1854-1928)

- Sarah (Garrison) Scritchfield, youngest child of Robert and Mary (Southwick) Garrison, was born near Greensburg, Decatur County, Indiana, May 28, 1854 and departed this life May 8, 1928.
When a small child her parents purchased a farm and established a new home near Creston, Lake County, Indiana, where she grew to womanhood, and always lived, or within a few miles of the same place.
September 7, 1872 she was united in marriage to Richard Scritchfield, who preceded her in death January 30, 1925. To this union were born five children, Robert S. Cassius H., Logan J., and two daughters who died infancy.
"Aunt Sarah," as she was familiarly called, by her host of friends and relatives was the last of a family of ten children to be called to the Great Beyond, sic brothers -- Samuel and Lewis dying in service during the Civil War; James, Logan, William, Eaton and Charles, and two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Davis and Mrs. William Hill.
She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Fleur de Lis Temple.
Mrs. Scritchfield was one of the early school teachers of Lake County and when a young woman taught in the West Creek Township schools.
She leaves three sons, five grandchildren, and a large number of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were held at the home of her son Logan Scritchfield, Thursday at 2 p.m. J.E. Poer conducted the services. Interment was made in Lowell cemetery
