William Thomas Buchanan (1850-1920)
Dies Very Suddenly
William T. Buchanan passed away at his home in Eagle Creek Township last Saturday evening. He had not been feeling very well for sometime, but it was not thought serious. Saturday evening he went out of doors and sat down in a chair and when his wife came in from gathering the eggs she found that he had answered the last call. Mr. Buchanan was a man who had a large circle of friends and his death was a great shock to them. He had a state-wide reputation as a breeder of pure bred Chester White hogs and devoted much of his time to this work. For many years he has been assessor of Eagle Creek Township and several times had asked to be relieved from the duties, but his constituents said no, as he was the right man for the place and they wanted him to continue in office. He will be mourned by many outside his immediate family.William T. Buchanan, eldest son of Rev. J.N. and Rosanna S. Buchanan, was born in Oxford, Ohio, February 23, 1850. At an early age he came with his parents to Hebron, where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage with Mary Jeanette Pearce, March 21, 1872, and to this union was born three children -- Albert D., of Whiting; Margaret R., deceased; and Mrs. John A. Johnson, of Schneider. Immediately after their marriage they settled on a farm in the Pearce neighborhood where they have since resided.
He was of a happy, jovial disposition and made many friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father, interested in the welfare of his family. Although he had been in falling health the community was shocked by his sudden death, leaving a large circle of relatives and friends.
The funeral was held at the home Monday at 2 p.m., and interment took place in the Hebron cemetery.
