- Dessie Chitwood spent Sunday with her father of Lowell.
The following Apr. 18, 1903, Lowell Souvenir article was found on page 5, column 1:
- Mrs. Dessie Steward joined her husband at Englewood Wednesday, where they will reside.
The following January 4, 1917, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mrs. Harry Steward and children returned to their home in Chicago Tuesday evening after a visit here with her father, James Chitwood, and wife.
The following July 5, 1917, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mr. and Mrs. Harry Steward and children, of Chicago, came Sunday evening for a visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Chitwood, and other relatives.
The following July 12, 1917, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 3:
- Mr. and Mrs. Edmon[d] Worley and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Steward and children went to Gary Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Perry Chitwood. Mr. and Mrs. Steward returned to their home in Chicago from Gary.
The following October 6, 1949, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 9, column 4:
- Home on Sunday to help their mother, Mrs. Dessie Steward, celebrate her birthday were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Steward and children of Lafayette and the Glen Steward family of Lowell, also Mr. and Mrs. A. Simpson of Lubbock, Texas.
The following October 5, 1950, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 6, column 4:
- Mr. and Mrs. Roger Steward and children Don and Janet of Lafayette surprised his mother, Mrs. Dessie Steward, on Sunday when they came to celebrate her birthday.
A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated Oct. 4, 1956, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
- Mrs. Dessie Steward arrived home Thursday from an extended visit in the home of her son, M/Sgt. Roy Steward and family who are stationed on the beautiful isle of Bermuda. Mrs. Steward appreciated the many interesting places she visited but was very happy to return to the U.S.A.
The following October 3, 1957, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 5:
- Mr. and Mrs. Roger Steward and son Donald and his fiancee, Miss Berry, all of Lafayette, spent Sunday with the former's mother, Mrs. Dessie Steward. They were joined by the latter's son, Glenn and family, and Mrs. Steward was feted at a dinner out by her sons and family. The occasion marked her birthday.
The following November 21, 1957, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 5:
- Mrs. Dessie Steward, accompanied her son and family Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Steward and Paul, also Miss Nancy Gordon, to Lafayette Sunday where they were guests at the wedding and reception of the former's grandson, Donald Steward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Steward of Lafayette. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brannock, Sue and Dennis, were guests also. The lovely formal ceremony took place in the First Christian church at 2:30 p.m., November 17, and the reception was held in the church dining room. Donald and his bride, the former Miss Shirley Ann Berry, also of Lafayette, will reside in Lafayette where he is employed in the office of the National Homes Corporation.
The following August 7, 1958, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 5:
- Mrs. Dessie Steward received the happy news of the arrival of a granddaughter, Denise Frances, born July 30 to Master Sergeant and Mrs. Roy Steward in Bermuda. The infant weighted seven pounds, 13 ounces. She has a brother Larry and a sister Debra. The Stewards recently visited with a former Lowell neighbor, Larry Ragon, who was in Bermuda with the Ralph Materie band. They attended a performance at the Officers club and enjoyed hearing Larry who is a saxophonist and featured vocalist.
The following September 22, 1960, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- Mr. and Mrs. C.U. Ragon and Mrs. Dessie Steward visited Rev. and Mrs. Edson Worley at Sheldon, Ill., Friday. They are happy to inform friends that Rev. Worley is making remarkable recovery from a stroke suffered some time ago while on a travel vacation. Enroute home they stopped in Brook to check on the condition of Mrs. Ross LaRue and learned that she remains in critical condition.
Another article on the same page, but in column 3, added the following:
- Mrs. Harry Steward went to Lafayette Saturday and joined her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Steward on a trip to Indianapolis where they attended a reunion of the Chitwood family and were overnight guests of relatives.
The following October 19, 1967, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 16, column 3:
- Mrs. Dessie Steward observed her 82nd birthday on Oct. 2nd. Several of her neighbors called on her bringing gifts. Her grandchildren also called, with gifts, and her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Steward, took her to Tiebel's for dinner.

Funeral Rites Held For Dessie Steward
Dessie Steward, age 83, of Lowell, passed away Sunday, May 18 at Our Lady of Mercy, Dyer.Survivors include three sons, Roger of Lafayette, Ind.; Glen of Lowell; Roy of Palm Bay, Fla.; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 21 at 2 p.m. with Kenneth Thomas officiating. Burial was in Lowell cemetery. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Past Chief Club, Indian Trail Grange, and a life long resident of Lowell.
