Huron Nick Ruge (1918-1992)
- Huron N. Ruge, son of Mrs. Pearl Ruge, Lowell, has passed his qualifying examination for an aviation cadet appointment according to an announcement from Baer Field, Ft. Wayne, where he enlisted recently. Huron, the second member of the Ruge family to enter service, is married and has one child. His brother, Lt. (j.g.) Sheridan, enlisted in the navy several months ago.
This March 2, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Huron Ruge, who recently passed the qualifying exams for the army air corps, left for the induction center at Indianapolis, Monday. His wife and daughter will continue to live in the home of her father, A.J. Moxell.
- Also leaving on the same day was Fred McCann, son of the Harold McCanns, who was inducted into the army recently.
A March 16, 1944, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 2) listed Huron E. Ruge of Lowell as among the recent army volunteers from Lake County Board No. 1, Crown Point, being sworn in at Ft. Benjamin Harrison. Note that the article had his middle initial as "E" rather than "N" for "Nick."
The following June 22, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 6:
- Mrs. Huron Ruge and son, Randy, are visiting at Ft. Meyer, Fla., where her husband is attending aviation gunner's school. She will remain there until Huron completes his schooling.
The following August 10, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:
Transferred to Laredo, Texas
Pfc. Huron Ruge, formerly stationed at Buckingham army air field, Ft. Meyer, Florida, has been transferred to Laredo, Texas, where he is now serving as a B-29 gunnery instructor, according to word received recently by his wife, the former Marjorie Moxell.The following October 12, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

Returns to Duty
After spending a furlough here with his family, Pfc. Huron Ruge has gone to Pyote, Texas, where he is a gunnery instructor on B-29 bombers.This June 28, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Writing his mother, Mrs. Pearl Ruge, Pfc. Huron Ruge says he has been transferred from Pyote, Tex., to Clovis, N.M. He had been an instructor on B-29's, but will now attend school for flight instruction.
This July 5, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
- A daughter was born to Pfc. and Mrs. Huron Ruge, June 29th. The little Miss has been named Dawn Lynn.
This October 4, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Pfc. Huron Ruge is home on 30 days with his family and his mother, Mrs. Pearl Ruge. He is now stationed at Pyote, Texas.
The following article from the Lake County Star (Feb. 4, 1992) can be found in the Local History Files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 3, page 48):
- Lowell will sadly miss Huron Nick Ruge, 73, who passed away quite suddenly Jan. 16. Born Nov. 26* in Cook, he was married Sept. 28, 1940 in Lowell to Marjorie Moxell who survives with their daughters, Allison Arffman of Maui, Hawaii, Jill Ruge of Cambridge, MS; one son, Jeff Ruge of Naperville, IL, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were Jan. 20 in Lowell followed by burial there.
- Ruge was very active in his community. He was former chairman of the board of the Lowell National Bank, the owner of the Jackson Engineering Frim, Indianapolis, member of many local organizations and the Lowell Church of Christ. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, member of American Legion Post 101, Lowell, and attended Notre Dame University.

- Nick Ruge, age 73, of Lowell, passed away Thurs., Jan. 16, 1992, at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Ruge; two daughters, Allison Lynn Arffman of Maui, Hawaii, and Jill Ruge of Cambridge, Massachusetts; one son, Jeff Ruge of Naperville, Ill.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Jan. 20 at Sheets Funeral Home, Lowell, with Pastor Charles Hochmuth and Rev. John K. Wortinger officiating. Burial followed at Lowell Memorial Cemetery. Nick Ruge was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Cook, to Emil and Pearl (nee Nichols) Ruge, and was married Sept. 28, 1940, in Lowell, to Marjorie Dawn Moxell. A U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, he attended the University of Notre Dame and was a member of American Legion Post 101 in Lowell. A member of the Lowell Church of Christ, he was a former chair of the board of the Lowell National Bank and was owner of Jackson Engineering in Indianapolis. He was active in community organizations in Lowell. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lowell Community Trust, c/o INB in Lowell.
