Lewis "Lew" Uhter (1860-1934)

LEWIS UHTER DROPS DEAD FRIDAY P.M.
HEART ATTACK ENDS LIFE OF FORMER CITIZEN, 74 YEARS OF AGE.
Lewis Uhter, who for many years was a resident of this vicinity, dropped dead at his home east of St. John last Friday about 3 p.m.He, in company with his son-in-law, Edward Geller, was out in the woods cutting wood. Mr. Geller saw Lewis fall to the ground and thought he had tripped and fell; he waited a minute or so and he did not get up, so he went to him and found that he had passed away. A doctor was called, but nothing could be done to revive him. Dr. Franklin Petry, deputy coroner for southern Lake county, was called and found that death had been caused by a heart attack.
The deceased was raised on a farm near Lowell and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.
Obituary
Lewis Uhter was born March 13, 1860, at East Melrose, Missouri. He passed away at St. John, Ind., March 23, 1934, at the age of 74 years and 10 days. He moved with his parents to Indiana and later was united in marriage to Dona Sollars, of Potomac, Ill., November 13, 1888. To this union seven children were born. His wife and two children preceded him [in] death.
He lived most of his life near Lowell, and the last three years has resided at St. John.
He leaves to mourn his loss, four sons, William, Henry, Fred and Herman; one daughter, Clara; five grand children, Irene, Robert, Donald, Dwight and Darlene; two brothers, William and John; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Worley, Mrs. Tena Worley and Mrs. Ida Shurte besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Lowell Sunday afternoon. J.E. Poer preached the funeral discourse. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery in charge of Weaver & Son..
