The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Betty Burton of Lowell:
    Born, to the wife of J.H. Brannock Friday, April 15, 1904, a baby girl. The little flower, after a brief stay in this world, passed to the great beyond at 4 a.m. Tuesday. The parents have the sympathy of the entire community in their sore bereavement.

    Hold Memorial Service For Mrs. J.H. Brannock, Lifetime Area Resident

    Death claimed a well-known and much loved resident of Lowell Sunday morning, January 6, when Mrs. James (Martha Garrison) Brannock, 85, succumbed to a long illness. She had been bedfast the last few years.

    Mattie, as she was known to her friends, was the eldest daughter of William and Malinda Garrison of Creston, where Mattie was born February 5, 1871.

    She was united in marriage to James H. Brannock on April 30, 1892, and the couple lived in Chicago for two years. They moved to Lowell in 1894, establishing their home at 243 North Fremont Street, where she lived for 63 years. Her husband, a prominent and successful contactor, died in 1951.

    A son, Forrest, of Lowell, passed away in August, 1956, and a daughter, Margaret, died in infancy.

    Mrs. Brannock was a member of the First Methodist church and Royal Neighbors of America. She was an exemplary mother and citizen and her interest n the welfare of others never waned.

    Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, in the Sheets Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Hotchkiss of Walkerton, former pastor of the Lowell Methodist church, assisted Rev. E.L. Worley, pastor of the Shelby Church of Christ, a lifelong friend of the deceased, who officiated. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery beside her husband.

    Survivors include four children, Mrs. Richard (Fern) Nolan of East Chicago, Mrs. Monte (Ila) Biesecker of Cedar Lake, Kenneth Brannock of Hobart and Robert Brannock of Lowell; also nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law , Mrs. Harry Steward of Lowell, one brother-in-law, Charles Buckley of Lowell, and many other relatives, neighbors and friends.
